Maginot Line

Exceptional Military History

The French Riviera has an exceptional military heritage that perfectly blends with the landscape.

The Fortified Sector of the Alpes-Maritimes (SFAM) is a privileged geographical region of observation and defense with forts all along the Italian border.

These constructions are part of the Maginot Line. Built between 1928 and 1940, the Maginot Line is a fortification and defense line built by France and its objective was to detect attacks coming from Italy.

Between Authion and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, some fortifications can still be visited today:

  • Fortification of Col de Tende
  • Fort Central of Col de Tende
  • Vallo Alpino
  • Fort of Marguerie
  • Fortification of Authion Massif
